Training Day April 2021

We all enjoyed a very informative training day at the Guilcagh stables ahead of the return of our riding sessions. Training days are extremely useful for all volunteers, those new to the group can learn new skills and it allows the more experienced volunteers to impart their knowledge and experiences learned through riding with disabled children over the years. Topics covered were grooming, tacking-up, as well as working on best practices for side-walking.

The afternoon session was spent simulating a riding session with the ponies and RDA volunteer riders. This enabled us to make sure everyone was happy and comfortable in their roles, and putting in to practice new skills learned.

We were delighted that our newest committee member Juan was able to join us for the day. Juan learned to ride through the Isle of Man RDA, and is an exceptionally proficient rider who has competed at the highest level. It was truly a privilege to watch him ride Cobweb and to see firsthand just what can be achieved through RDA.
