40 Years and Counting

In the summer of 1976 the local committee of the British Horse Society held a meeting to discuss the possibility of starting an RDA group on the Island. A steering committee was formed, and the first meeting held on 20th October 1976.

Over the next 40 years, the group went from strength to strength, and has been riding continuously throughout. For various reasons the venues have changed along the way starting in Corvalley and Conrhenney, then to Gilbey Grianagh Horses, then  Abbeylands, then to Pennybridge Equestrian Centre, and finally to our current home The Guilcagh where we ride on Tuesdays and Fridays.

During this time the group has been honoured to receive several visits from HRH Princess Anne – in 1979, 1984, 1994 and May 2004.

Over the years the group has enjoyed many events and celebrations. Fundraising has been a major enterprise including many enjoyable events and the receipt of numerous donations and legacies for which the group is eternally grateful. Many people, far too numerous to mention individually, have contributed so much to keep the group going. So much gratitude is owed to them for all their dedication and hard work.
